His Friends

Dear Wainaina family Silas was such an integral part of our lives at IBM. He was such a symbol of energy, compassion and altruism. How do you replace such an icon? We could mention so many instances where he displayed empathy yet, when needed, made the tough decisions. When we look at the outpouring of grief, how can one not be humbled. It is true that his was a life taken too soon.
To quote Martin Luther King, “the ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of convenience and comfort, but where he stands at moments of challenge of and controversy”.
Silas has spent many years with us, and to this end, we have to talk about UBUNTU, a word that captures Mandela’s greatest gift – his recognition that we are all bound together in ways that are invisible to the eye; that there is a oneness to humanity; that we achieve ourselves by sharing ourselves with others, and caring for those around us If this is not Silas, then, we do not know how else to describe his impact on our world! Our deepest condolences from IBM South Africa
